Today is my birthday! Years pass by, life goes on! When I look back at the last 365 days, I have lots of interesting memories. There was happiness, sadness, excitement, boredom, adventures and few very very scary moments!
However, when I close my eyes to reflect upon it, I remember only ONE moment. This was Sachin Tendulkar’s last test match. I was present in the stadium when he played his last match. I haven’t felt anything like this. I knew he was known as ‘God’ but after spending few days in the stadium, I found it why people called him God. The chants of “Sachin Sachin” are still ringing in my ears.
There were lots of emotions when Sachin was giving his farewell speech. This video by Harsha Bhogle summarizes my emotions pretty well.
“Anyone can achieve their fullest potential, who we are might be predetermined, but the path we follow is always of our own choosing.
We should never allow our fears or the expectations of others to set the frontiers of our destiny. Your destiny can’t be changed but, it can be challenged. Every man is born as many men and dies as a single one.”
Today is the 5th anniversary of Mumbai Attacks. I remember the day clearly - I had just entered the office in Mountain View, CA and as part of my usual habit, opened NDTV website. I was SHOCKED to find out about the scale of the attack. I immediately called my ex-roommate who was in Mumbai at that time. I was afraid for my friends in Mumbai. I was afraid for millions of people in Mumbai. I couldn’t work in the office. I was glued to all news website for hours and hours!! I couldn’t sleep for days.
Few weeks ago, I went to the two locations which were attacked - Leopold Cafe and Taj Mahal Hotel and prayed silently for the victims. I hope that such attacks never happen anywhere in the world.
One thing that struck me - the strength of Mumbaikars! They have an inordinate strength of facing attacks or calamities. Let’s raise a toast for Mumbaikars!
“Everyone who shares their thoughts are brave individuals. It takes guts to let anyone, and everyone see inside your heart. We should never let anyone discourage us from our right to share.”—william chapman (via d202)
I went to Big Sur with Vivek, Miloni and one of her classmates. We drove all the way from Sunnyvale to Carmel Valley Ranch for the breakfast. The ranch was HUGE and AMAZING!
Then we drove to Limekiln State Park along CA1 highway. It was easily one of the most beautiful drives! Every spot on the highway has such gorgeous views that it can’t be described in words. You have to go there to experience it yourself.
Here are few of many photographs that I took. It was just surreal!
