Mansur Ali Khan ‘Tiger’ Pataudi, India’s youngest cricket captain passed away earlier today in Delhi. He was the man of style - one of the favorite cricketers of my father. I have never seen Tiger playing but my father spoke highly of him. I think because of the stories that I heard and read in the newspapers in my childhood, I really started liking THE nawab of cricket. He will be missed. As Rajdeep Sardesai tweeted, they don’t make ‘em like anymore.
Mudar Patherya wrote a great article about Pataudi. I guess this paragraph summarizes Pataudi:
Pataudi was the last bridge between the medieval and the modern. Never again will we have a 21-year-old leading India, never again will there be a cricketing blue-blood keeping his place on merit, never again will there be someone who could probably claim, “My father played for England… and India”.
